Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get Durable Medical Equipment through my insurance?
Yes, you can get most Durable Medical Equipment through your insurance. Typically a face to face visit (not Telemedicine) with your doctor is required, along with prescriptions. Depending on the type of equipment you are trying to qualify for, there may be additional requirements by your insurance. For instance, oxygen saturation testing, a sleep study, height and weight etc. Please reach out to our office for specific guidelines on the piece of equipment you are seeking.
What do I do if my concentrator is alarming or has a yellow light?
If your concentrator is alarming yellow it means there is a low oxygen flow being put out by the machine. This could be for many reasons. First, there needs to be at least one foot of air space behind your concentrator and clean filters. We also suggest disconnecting the tubing completely as you may have a crack or kink you cannot see. Turn off your concentrator and unplug it. Wait 30 seconds, plug the machine back in, hit the reset button and turn it back on. Allow it to run for 10 minutes and if it does not go back to green, call us at 906-341-1116 and one of our experienced technicians will bring you a new concentrator.

How often should I change my oxygen cannulas and tubing?
It is recommended that you change your nasal cannulas every two weeks for cannulas used 24/7. Tubing should be replaced every 3 to 6 months. No cleaning is necessary but do check for cracking and kinks. Cannulas should be disposed of if you had/have a respiratory infection.
How often do I have to see my doctor if I am on oxygen?
Insurance guidelines require that you be seen once a year after your initial set up with oxygen. Meaning that you have a face to face (not telemedicine) visit with your doctor and discuss your oxygen. Whether it be your continued use and/or benefits. They also require that once every 5 years you complete all new saturation testing to show your continued need.
