I just got a CPAP/BIPAP. What are the compliance guidelines?
-
All insurances require that you have a face to face (not telemedicine) follow up with your doctor no sooner than day 31 of getting your machine and no later than day 90.
-
All insurances also require that you have a compliant download. To obtain compliance you must use your PAP device for a minimum of 21 out of 30 days for at least 4 hours or more. It can be any 30 day period within the first 90 days, however they must be consecutive. Some machines are cloud based and we may be able to access your download remotely. Other machines require that you bring your SD card in to Community Home Medical to obtain the download. If you are unsure, please call us prior to your appointment so we can assist you.
-
The only exception to these minimum requirements are for UPHP, Michigan Medicaid and UPHP MiHealth Link patients, your insurance will also require a compliant 90 day download. Which means, at a minimum you have worn your PAP device for at least 63 out of the first 90 days for 4 hours or more each day.
How often can I get new PAP machine supplies?
Insurance allows a new mask, filters and tubing every three months. They also allow a new headgear and replacement water chamber every 6 months. You are not able to get another round of supplies until after you have met compliance and your first 90 days has passed. The only exception to this is UPHP and Medicaid members are only entitled to new supplies through your insurance once per calendar year. For UPHP MiHealth Link, because of the Medicare portion of your insurance, you are eligible for new supplies every three months. We do offer competitive private pay pricing if you need new supplies but are not eligible through your insurance.
How do I order new PAP machine supplies?
By calling 906-341-1116 or 906-553-7601 and pressing option 3. You will be connected to our PAP machine resupply line. If you receive the voicemail message, please leave your name date of birth and the exact supplies you would like to order and our PAP resupply team will begin your order..
Can my PAP supplies be put on Auto-refill?
Unfortunately, no. Insurance guidelines require that we have contact from the patient to initiate and/or confirm the need for new supplies. We do have reminder calls for our patients, but it is best practice to call the office one week before your supplies are due so we can process the order and have them ready to ship on your next eligible refill date.
How will I get my new PAP supplies?
Unless you are a new set up or in for a mask fit, PAP supply orders are filled and mailed with tracking from the Manistique location right to your front door at no cost to you. When placing your order, we will verify your supplies as well as your phone number and address to ensure you receive your supplies.
How should I clean my PAP supplies?
We recommend cleaning your PAP supplies once a week with warm soapy water, rinse and air dry. It would benefit you to use a mild soap such as Ivory Dish Soap so the supplies do not retain smell or residue. We also recommend washing monthly in one part vinegar, two parts water, soak for 20 minutes, rinse and air dry. You should always allow enough time for your supplies to dry completely before using. We do sell mask wipes and Ultra Violet light sanitizers as well to help you cut down on oils and germs between washes, but these do not take the place of regular cleaning.
How often do I have to see my doctor if I use a PAP machine?
Insurance guidelines require that you have a face to face (not telemedicine) visit with your doctor once per year to continue receiving PAP supplies. During this visit you and your doctor should discuss your continued use and/or benefit of using the PAP device. It is also helpful if you have a download showing you continue to use the machine. Yearly when we receive your new paperwork and your first order is placed, your doctor will also be required to sign a SWO. Please plan ahead for this as depending on availability, it may take a few extra days to process.
